Mifa Deals

Despite the difficult economic environment, especially for European TV channels, trade remained active at Mifa. Annecy has established itself as an accelerator for the distribution of features in competition.

Even though the discussions, initiated during Mifa, generally come good a few weeks later, the feature Cristal awarded to the Brazilian film Rio 2096: A Story of Love and Fury, accelerated negotiations. The day after Mifa, sales were finalised for France, Portugal and Russia.

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) signed its first co-production with Estonia, for Priit and Olga Pärn's next opus, Pilots on the Way Home.

Among other deals, France Télévisions Distribution sold the Octonauts series to the channels Disney Junior in Korea, Treehouse in Canada and RTE2 and RTE Junior in Ireland.

In the words of the producer of Oggy and the Cockroaches, the Movie, screened here as a sneak preview, for launching an animated feature, "Annecy is becoming more interesting than Cannes. International distributors are more available here". The film has already been sold to 150 countries, and has now started discussions for Scandinavia.
